Well I would say that this is an external conflict because Billy does not have an problem with society but with himself. Nothing is going right for him even how he tried. The only thing that is keeping him back was his life at his home. His home life is not as great as he wishes and he is the different one in siciety that no one likes very much because of his culture. He tries to ifnor it so his life will be better all around him but right now its not working for him.
