By: Margaret Peterson Haddix
pg.120

Jessie is the main character in this book, who is trying to find help for her sick sister. She is living in the secluded town of Clifton, which acts like the 1800's, while it is really 1996 in the real world. Jessie escaped Clifton to get help and find new medicine. She fights with herself, because she wants to go back but at the same time she wants to get help for her dying sister. She makes the right decision and keeps going with her search. If she didn't continue many people including her sister would die. While all of this is going on, the people of Clifton are looking for her and are going to kill her. Jessie makes the right choice hides from these men.
