Amy Wright

Coming Back Stronger
By Drew Brees
Pg. 52-87

Drew had to go through some hardships during his life. When he was in high school, he hurt his knee and he was unable to compete in some high school sports for a while because he was injured. He lost contact with some of his friends because they were always busy participating in a sport and they didn't really have any time to hang out with their injured friend. It made him sad and he had to fight against the negative thoughts that were filling his head about why his friends never hung out with him anymore. The only reason he overcame that battle is because one night he was thinking to himself and he thought about what he was going to do with the rest of his life. He thought he was going to be a failure or else he could do intensive rehab and have the determination and will power to over come the injury and come back stronger. He was attempting to solve the problem by choosing to follow the directions from the doctor and do intensive rehab so he could come back stronger than ever.
An external conflict was when the coach from the University of Kentucky contacted him to play football and so did the coach from Purdue. At that point in time in his life, he wanted to go to college and play baseball. He didn't think he was good enough in football, so he had his mind set on going to college for baseball. His thinking changed when his coach was contacted by the two coaches from those two universities. He overcame this problem when he was starting his senior year and played phenominal in the football games.
I agree with these choices because he has become someone who most people dream of being but never fully achieve their goals.
