The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Stieg Larsson
p. 13
At this point I would change the wording of the story. Half of the words in the story make no sense to me. The author has a very advanced vocabulary that is way over my head. Also, it refers to many places I have never heard of because it takes place in Sweden. I wouldn't change the references to the places, but maybe have the author elaborate for those of us who have no background knowledge of Sweden. I would want the vocabulary changed to make the story easier to read for people like me with a limited vocabulary. If the vocabulary is changed it would make the novel less unique, because the large vocabulary used engages the reader, even if it confuses me most of the time. I would want to add in more of the setting details, but on the downside it would make the story pretty dry and slow for those who already know about Sweden. These changes wouldn't affect the setting, plot, or characters, it would just affect the reader and how much they enjoy the novel. Mostly they are just changes that would make the novel easier for me to follow.

  1. I agree, it is hard to read a book with big vocabulary, cause than it feels like your missing something. It would also be nice to know more about the setting even if its just a little paragraph. Is this a good book besides the hard vocab and strange setting?

  2. I also agree. My vocabulary is not that big and if i was reading a book with this problem i would be lost too. I enjoy reading books ment for younger people becuase they are easier to read.
