The Glass Castle
Jeannette Walls
Pg. 104

An internal conflict in my book is of the dad. He is struggling to get money for his family, and even though he can not get much money he seems happy on the outside, but on the inside he is very sad because he wants the best for his family and wants to provide for them as much as he can. An external conflict is between the main girl (they have not stated her name) and a boy named Billy. He really likes her, but she does not like him back. Once she told Billy that she did not like him, Billy got really upset and starting arguing with her. Another thing Billy did was he got his BB gun and began shooting at the girl and her siblings. She was freaking out and finally ran to get her dads shotgun to have Billy get away from them. She would no longer have to deal with Billy anymore, at least that is what she thinks. I agree with her choice of getting the gun because she was only protecting herself, and she knew she was not going to actually use it. I think the dad for his conflict should tell his family how he feels about the whole money situation in front of the family because I think if he expresses his feelings he would feel much better and then they can also confront to him how they do not care how much money they have and he is doing just fine.

  1. I think that the internal conflict is very good and that he is doing all that he can to get money for his family. The external seems kind of boring how a girl and guy like each other. That is like in every book that there is. Other then that this book seems somewhat interesting and I would like to no how he deals with the problems as the book goes on.
